Instructions for use:

You may also download these instructions as a Word document.

  1. Place horse’s ears in ear holes of the bridle and buckle the thin strap on the under side.
  2. Buckle the thick strap on the horse’s nose (both straps should be snug).
  3. Side straps: These straps should start on the last hole. (loosest)
  4. Tighten side straps according to the size of your horse (should also be snug).
  5. For the next step you will need rope or an extra set of reins.
    1. Tie one end of the rope to one cable end.
    2. Run rope over the saddle horn and down to the cable end on the other side.
    3. Tie the end of the rope to the cable end on that side.
  6. Loop the rope around the saddle horn until the rope attached to the cable is tight on both sides.
    1. You may need to adjust this depending on the behavior of the horse.
    2. The tighter the rope is (going to the cables) the less freedom the horse will have.
    3. The horse should be comfortable, but unable to lower its head.
  7. IMPORTANT: After you have installed the Barnes Trainer, you will still need to use a bridle over the trainer.
    a. The Barnes Trainer is designed to work with the bridle and is not safe to use without a bridle.
