- Place horse’s ears in ear holes of the bridle and buckle the thin strap on the under side.
- Buckle the thick strap on the horse’s nose (both straps should be snug).
- Side straps: These straps should start on the last hole. (loosest)
- Tighten side straps according to the size of your horse (should also be snug).
- For the next step you will need rope or an extra set of reins.
- Tie one end of the rope to one cable end.
- Run rope over the saddle horn and down to the cable end on the other side.
- Tie the end of the rope to the cable end on that side.
- Loop the rope around the saddle horn until the rope attached to the cable is tight on both sides.
- You may need to adjust this depending on the behavior of the horse.
- The tighter the rope is (going to the cables) the less freedom the horse will have.
- The horse should be comfortable, but unable to lower its head.
- IMPORTANT: After you have installed the Barnes Trainer, you will still need to use a bridle over the trainer.
a. The Barnes Trainer is designed to work with the bridle and is not safe to use without a bridle.
